To set the scene for the day, SCAISU co-founder Lars Bastholm is going to take stock of where we are right now and where we are going next.

Lars Bastholm

Lars is the co-founder of the Scandinavian Creative AI Summit and the principal of Bastholm Creative Consulting.

After a career spent working at the intersection of storytelling and technology at companies like Google, Ogilvy and AKQA, Lars is now an AI evangelist who advises the creative industries on how to adopt generative AI.

He is also an active AI practitioner involved in several yet-to-be-revealed creative projects.

Employing over 8,700 people across 57 talent hubs in 32 countries, the Media.

Joakim Borgström – better known as JAB – is the former Global Chief Creative Officer (CCO) of BBH.

Prior to this, Jab held a number of leadership roles, including Chief Creative Officer for BBH London and Singapore, Creative Director/Director of Innovation at Goodby Silverstein & Partners, San Francisco, Creative Director at Wieden+Kennedy, Amsterdam, and Creative Director and Partner at DoubleYou, Barcelona.

Jab is a rare mix of Swedish and Argentinian, speaks five languages, and has worked in five countries over the last 25 years. During his career, he has worked on global brands such as Nike, IKEA, Absolut, Audi, Coca-Cola, Google, Doritos, Barclays, Samsung, Heineken, and Chevrolet.

Jab is the winner of over 200+ awards, including 20 One Show Pencils, 11 Cannes Lions, and a Cannes Grand Prix. He has sat on the jury of every major award show and is a sought-after speaker in the industry.

Not only did Google invent the ‘transformers’ that created the current boom in generative AI, they have also been developing tools that will reshape our workflows and redefine the very essence of creativity and collaboration.

Mailine will show how Google’s AI tools can enable better, smarter and faster creative thinking.

Mailine Swildens

Mailine has spent her entire career leading teams in the international communications & digital industry. She started working at McCann Global in New York, and after an MBA at INSEAD, joined Publicis Worldwide as Director of International Development.

She then became part of the founding team of FullSIX Europe. The agency grew to become a leading digital marketing pure player in Europe with a portfolio of multinational clients, +180m euros in turnover and +1500 employees. The company was subsequently sold to Havas.

Mailine then joined Google to start the ZOO, its iconic creative team, in Southern Europe, Middle East and Africa and grew it throughout the EMEA region, working for Google’s largest clients across all industry verticals. The ZOO changed its name globally to Creative Works in 2021.

She is a frequent industry speaker at major creative and digital festivals and conferences, such as the World Wide Web Forum, Cannes, Mobile Marketing Association, IAB, The Drum, the Dubai Lynx and many others.

AI is rapidly transforming content creation. This raises a number of IP questions such as:

– Copyright protection for AI output: Is AI-generated content eligible for copyright?

– IP contamination: Does using small amounts of AI-generated content affect the IP protection of the entire product?

– Emerging case law: Are there global legal trends from recent court decisions on AI?

– AI training and copyright: Is it legal to use copyrighted material for AI training?

– Safeguarding IP rights: How can AI use be compliant with existing IP laws?

Artificial Intelligence is advancing at an unprecedented pace, presenting complex challenges not only in technical development but also in relation to copyright law.

This presentation, led by attorney Jakob Plesner and professor Morten Rosenmeier, examine the legality of training and using AI systems. This subject has sparked numerous legal cases. A notable example is the New York Times case.

The presentation explores questions such as the legality of AI systems’ dataflow and training processes, the concept of ‘memorization’ by AI, and the legal implications of users and businesses uploading content to their own GPT models without permission.

The presentation also looks at AI-created content. Can AI systems legally be used to create images, texts, and music? Where is the line drawn between legal and illegal use? This part also addresses the protection of AI-generated creations, a topic that has led to various legal disputes worldwide.

Throughout the presentation, Morten and Jakob provide an overview of these issues, offering practical advice for developing strategies for compliant AI use.

To demonstrate how AI systems operate in practice, we’ll have DJ Noize take the stage. Noize is not only a former world champion DJ but also one of the leading experts in creating AI music.

Noize will craft a soundscape for Morten and Jakob’s walkthrough of the law.

This means that the audience will get a glimpse into the AI engine room. From concept to creation. All to illustrate the legal points. So, expect to be blown away by both good (and bad) examples of AI music.

Jakob Plesner Mathiasen

Head of Gorrissen Federspiel’s Media & Entertainment division, which provides assistance in all legal aspects of copyright, media law, sports, influencer marketing, the entertainment industry etc.

As a leading expert in IP law, Jakob has a deep-rooted passion for technological innovation, with a special focus on AI. His expertise lies in the complex interplay between new technologies and IP rights.

Jakob is at the forefront of addressing the legal challenges of AI.

In 2021, Jakob launched the podcast Entertainment Law (“Entertainmentretten”).

Alongside co-host professor Morten Rosenmeier, Jakob analyzes the latest legal trends, case law, and developments within IP, with a particular emphasis on how emerging technologies are reshaping the legal landscape.

Morten is a professor of copyright law and has a long list of honorable achievements related to the protection and management of copyright in Denmark.

Morten is the author of a number of books and national and international articles on copyright.

Morten is – among other positions – the chair of the Danish Society for Copyright and the Academic Committee for the Protection of Scientific Work (UBVA).

At Sudowrite, the AI writing tool suite for novelists, Michael leads a rapidly-growing community of writers and authors—developing programming and initiatives that support AI-assisted writers, while also helping to redefine what that label even means. Everyone has a story, and at Sudowrite the mission is to make sure that anyone can tell it.

Michael’s work in artificial intelligence began in 2020, when he joined Zumo Labs, a Y Combinator-backed startup focused on generating synthetic training data for safer, more reliable computer vision models. Prior to that, he spent nearly seven years at creative crowdfunding platform Kickstarter.

At Kickstarter, Michael spearheaded Partnerships and Outreach, leading campaigns with a multitude of independent creators, celebrities, and esteemed institutions such as the AZA, the USHMM, and the Smithsonian.

Gary Koepke

Gary Koepke has a diverse career in the world of design and advertising, boasting a career marked by groundbreaking contributions to major publications and brands. As the founding Design Director of Vibe magazine, he crafted award-winning works, including the iconic designs of Musician magazine and Benetton’s Colors magazine.

Koepke’s creative journey extended to collaborating with influential artists such as David Bowie and U2, directing acclaimed music videos like “Slow Burn” and “Window in the Skies.”

In 2000, Koepke co-founded Modernista! alongside Lance Jensen, leaving an indelible mark with projects for Cadillac, GAP, Showtime, and many others.

The agency’s innovative approach earned them accolades, including Regional Agency of the Year by AdWeek in 2004 and recognition at the Webby Awards and SXSW Web Awards. Notably, their alternative reality game for Season Five of the Dexter TV show received the Webby Peoples Choice Award.

Post-Modernista!, Koepke’s creative leadership continued at SapientNitro, where he served as North American Chief Creative, setting standards for creative excellence in the digital landscape.

Koepke’s artistic design and art direction extend to the DNP Gallery in Japan and the permanent collection at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Actively engaged in social causes, he sits on the Stop Handgun Violence board and the Action Button and Air Guard advisory board.

Koepke’s multifaceted contributions include board membership at the Ad Council, involvement in the Clinton Global Initiative, and service on the Communications Task Force of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria. He chaired the American Photography Annual from 1998 to 2003.

An avid musician and painter, Gary Koepke continues to shape the intersection of creativity, culture, and social impact.
